Sponsored walk
article by: webmaster
A sponsored walk will take place along the track between
Toddington Station and Winchcombe Station on Sunday 17th
June 2012 at 10.00am providing a unique opportunity to view the
work ongoing to rectify the slip near Winchcombe. All proceeds will
be used to support projects on the railway.
The walk will be along the track bed between Toddington Station
and Winchcombe Station, including alongside the stock yard at
Toddington, along the normally operational section to Hailes Abbey
(this will be closed for the duration of the walk), the engineering
section to Chicken Curve, across the site of the slip and finally
into the station area at Winchcombe.
The walk will commence at Toddington Station at 10.00am.
Everyone is welcome to participate, but please do remember that
this is a sponsored event. We do hope you will want to complete the
full six mile round walk, although transport back to Toddington
from Winchcombe could be arranged for those who only wish to
attempt a three mile walk. There will be refreshments
available at Winchcombe.
There are a number of ways in which you could help to make this
event a success:
- Take part yourself and get friends and family to sponsor
you
- Sponsor someone whom you know will be taking part, or
alternatively sponsor the chairman
- Make a donation
- Anyone who donates £10 or more is asked to estimate the average
time of the first 20 walkers. The nearest estimate wins a £20 GWR
gift voucher
If you do intend to join us, please remember that the majority
of the walk is on ballasted railway track bed, so please do wear
appropriate clothing and stout boots or shoes.
