Once again the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's Special Fish and Chip Train, "The Cheltenham Fryer" will be offering a leisurely Saturday  ride through the Cotswold countryside.

These Steam specials include a fish and chip meal served in the modern equivalent of the traditional chip shop newspaper - a heat retentive box. Your meal will be delivered to your reserved seats by our train stewards who will also be pleased to serve you refreshments from the Buffet Car including our own GWR House Wines and Rail Ale  as well as hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks. We respectfully ask that you do not bring with you your own refreshments - there is plenty on the train at very reasonable prices.

This year you have more choice than ever as we run a greater number of fish and chip specials to cope with the demand. And the prices remain the same!

SATURDAY EVENINGS

Your train departs from Winchcombe Station (satnav GL54 5LD)  at 7:00pm on these dates returning at about 9:30pm.  The dates we are running this service are:

• May 12^th
• May 19^th
• June 2^nd
• July 7^th
• July 21^st
• August 11^th
• August 25^th
• September 8^th.

The price including train travel in your reserved seat and a large portion of fish and chips is £20. Please note that there are no children's prices for this event and we don't recommend young children are invited

SATURDAY LUNCHTIMES

In the spring and autumn we are introducing a larger number of lunchtime trains following their success in 2011. Your seat will be reserved on the 1pm steam train departing from Winchcombe Station (satnav GL54 5LD) which then returns about an hour and a quarter later. Most passengers join the train at Winchcombe but you can if you prefer join it at Cheltenham on its arrival at 1:20pm or catch the earlier departure from Cheltenham at 12.00 and remain on the train or have a coffee at our tearoom at Winchcombe before the 13.00 departure. 

Your ticket also allows you to take a further trip on the steam train that day and the ticket is also valid on the heritage diesel service from Toddington on the date shown on your fish and chip ticket.

The dates we are running this service are:

• April 14^th
• April 28^th
• October 6^th
• October 20^th
• November 10th

The price for unlimited train travel on that date plus a reserved seat on the fish and chip special and of course a large portion of fish and chips is £18.00.

Children under 5 may travel free but will not be allocated a seat. All children who require fish and chips will be charged at a reduced rate of £13.

MIDSUMMER MURDER FISH AND CHIP SPECIAL

Following last year's sell out success, we invite you once again to join us for a special midsummer murder mystery trip on Saturday June 16th. The steam train will leave Winchcombe Station at 7pm and whilst you tuck into your fish and chips, an exciting mystery will be played out around you. Be prepared for the unusual - anything can happen especially when the train is in the tunnel! The price for this evening entertainment is £27. Please note that there are no children's prices for this event and we don't recommend young children are invited.

Bookings

Seats on all of our fish and chip trains must be booked in advance. The last date for booking is the Wednesday before the train departs. However, please be aware that the trains are often full several weeks before departure.  Please note that there are no concessionary rates for these trains.

We allocate all seating in advance on these trains so if you want to be seated with other passengers who have booked separately please let us know by email at fishandchips@gwsr.com.

Passengers are asked not to bring their own refreshments onto these special trains.

Dietary needs

These trains are run as fish and chip specials and we are unable to offer alternative food as a matter of routine.  However, we can cater for those who cannot eat fish and indicate this at the time of booking.  In these circumstances we can arrange for a sausage and chips or veggie burger to be supplied in place of fish.  We cannot offer any other alternative meal.

Those with a gluten intolerance may request batter free fish or we can supply a chips only meal for them to bring their own food with them.  Please note that we, like our supplier, are unable to guarantee that any food supplied is 'free from' allergens or specific ingredients such as gluten.

Disabled passengers

We are able to accommodate passengers with mobility dificulties or who are wheelchair users on the fish and chip train but suitable seating can be limited.  Please contact us by e-mail to fishandchips@gwsr.com to outline your requirements before placing your booking so that we can help you enjoy your visit

Groups

We can also offer a Fish and Chip Charter Train service for parties from 60 to 170 passengers. These make an unusual evening out for your firm, club or perhaps for that special party.  Contact the fish and chip organiser via fishandchips@gwsr.com or the booking office to talk about your plans.
