Make your way to Gotherington and you’ll find this delightful little locomotive operating with a brake van along the private siding in what used to be the station yard. It is a Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns 0-4-0ST that used to work at Earley power station near Reading, but is presented as identical Great Western no. 1144 which used to shunt at Swansea Docks.  

For the first time. Bryan Nicholls - owner of the former Gotherington station and yeard - is opening his garden to the public.

Please note that the platform at Gotherington Halt is very short. Please alight from the train from the front two carriages only!

You can enjoy the idyllic Cotswold surroundings of the station (which British Railways closed way back in 1955) and the wide range of railway artifacts here. This includes his award-winning 'Gotherington West' halt which is a faithful reproduction of many GWR timber-platform halts on wayside branch lines, complete with its corrugated-iron 'pagoda' waiting room.

Serving this halt is Bryan's own private siding.  And for the first time, a steam locomotive will be operating along this short line, with a brake van to ride in.  The locomotive is a Robert Stephenson & Hawthorne 0-4-0ST (by courtesy of the Gwilli Railway) which is presented as GWR Swansea Harbour shunter no. 1144.

Adding to the enjoyment is a display of GWR road vehicles.  These are steam driven, in the shape of a former Great Weastern Railway traction engine; horse drawn drays (complete with shire horses) and motor vehicles.  This shows how the Great Western delivered customers' goods and parcels once they reached their local station.
