This express passenger locomotive was probably Maunsell's finest design and was the most powerful 4-4-0 locomotive in the UK. Designed to meet the tight loading gauge of the Tonbridge to Hastings main line these locos spent most of their time in the South East until displaced by diesel traction. Repton was built in 1934 and spent its early life at Bournemouth before moving to Kent. It was withdrawn from Basingstoke in 1962 and went to Steamtown in Vermont USA until being repatriated to the UK in the 1989.
