April 2010 Report
article by: Chris Howl
The team have been tackling an overgrown embankment at
Gotherington signal box this month.
Unfortunately subsequent events will make this beyond the
running line so no one will see it.
This month's weather conditions have been excellent with many
sunny days.
The first view on the right shows the south side of the line
before we began but the main purpose was to clean out the fence
line to enable a new stock proof fence to be erected to keep sheep
in the field.
This involved removal of some fairly dense hawthorn bushes which
had ruined what was left of the fence.
The embankment is pretty steep at this point and this made work
rather more difficult although it was all completed in three
Saturdays.
The second view shows the fence line completely clear ready for
new fence to be erected.
If trains had been running to Cheltenham this would have made a
great photo location.
The team have now moved back to Far Stanley to clear the north
side fence line because the cattle are getting out on to the line.
This location has an advantage of being next to a place where we
have been allowed to park on a concrete yard with only a short walk
to the work area.
The team meet every Saturday from 9.30am, throughout the
year.
