October/November 2009 Report
article by: Chris Howl
The slightly larger team have been tackling an overgrown
wilderness this month and trying to return it to a normal railway
embankment.
These months have seen more difficult weather conditions with
especially wet and windy days.
This involved removal of some fairly dense blackthorn bushes and
an awful lot of brambles.
We cleared the fence line, but this was made more difficult
because of double fence of wood and wires separated by a small
gap.
It was intended to do this lower area with the machine but there
are still difficulties with the fitting of the replacement tracks
and modifying the 40 cleats that are fitted to the tracks to
provide the grip on the steep banks. It is hoped to have the
machine operational again in December.
Finally the Far Stanley Bridge was reached and clearing around
the fences takes quite a long time and is very fiddly work but
always looks very nice when finished.
The team have now moved to a new work place at Bishops Cleeve
adjacent to the caravan park on the north east side of Station
Road. This location has a great advantage of being adjacent to a
suitable parking place with only a short walk to the work area.
The team meet every Saturday from 9.30am, throughout the
year.
