This year has been a busy one for the fire dept. They have not
only helped out at RAF Brize Norton but also carried out loads of
duties at GWSR.
This year (2009) so far they have attended 4 First aid call outs
as first responders and also found time to do some clearance work
at Bishops Cleeve following a request from one of the railways
neighbours.
The department was very busy during the Postman Pat event and we
had lots of very happy and slightly wet children after they all had
a go with the hoses in the carpark at Toddington. In fact several
Mums and Dads ended up a bit damp after thier children used the
high pressure hoses off Chris`s new fire engine Fifi. The event was
finished off by the department on the Sunday by the team pumping
2500 gallons of water from an emergency dam in the car park in less
than 5 mins. The fire department used a ground monitor and the
water jet put nearby Stanway House fountain to shame.
The department is looking forward to Fireman Sam`s visit later
in the year and will make him very welcome (its a fireman thing)We
are hoping a lot of very younge firemen are also around to help us
use even more hoses (we just love water)
They are also giving very much needed First aid cover at the
railway during the forth coming steam gala. They are hoping not to
be called upon for duty over this busy time but they are always
ready and able when called to duty.
If you have ever wanted to be a fireman then why not contact
Chris Stockman on 07946 733674 and come to a training session and
have a go. We train on a Thurday eve twice a month.
Keep safe and happy
